Starting this year, we will be introducing brand new weapon models for all weapons (With the exception of knives).
This page will clear up any questions you may have about this change and what it means going forward for content creation.
No, we are not requiring content creators to update their finishes to the new models. If you wish to update your weapon finish to the new models, you are more than welcome to.
If your weapon finish is pattern based, it will move over to the new models automatically. You cannot opt-out of this due to how the pattern system works.
No, but we are likely only going to accept weapon finishes using the new models, however in some cases we may still accept weapon finishes using the old models.
Any paint kits which are pattern based will be migrated over automatically as these paint kits are based on weapon slots (Or paint-by-number) instead of drawing on to a model's UV map.
We've tried to keep sticker positions as close as possible to their old positions (Which were from CS:GO) but on some models due to detail and animation changes, some stickers have had to be moved.
We have done this for a number of reasons:
These are the same models that will be used in the future on s&box, so creators will not need to re-create assets when moving to Source 2.
Better UV maps and models for creators to work with
Fixing of various bugs and issues with the old weapons
We can support new cases going forward from CS2
The new 3D models will be available for download when the update comes out in early April 2025.
No, the process is the same with the legacy models, different weapons will have different slots which can be painted, and you'll be able to use the same tools you're already using.
