Workbench is the weapon finish creation tool in Lambda Content Authoring Tools. You choose a weapon, pick a finish style, supply your pattern and material textures, then tune colours, wear and surface properties while previewing the result on a 3D weapon model.
Workbench is currently in beta
Expect rough edges, and export your work often. Anything not exported is lost when you leave the tool.
If you are new to weapon finishes, start with the Finish Styles documentation first. It explains what each style is and which textures it needs.
Layout
The workspace has a menu bar and a Material Inputs panel alongside the 3D preview:
File: Load and export your finish.
Weapon: Choose which weapon model the finish is previewed on.
Finish Style: Choose the finish style. Finish style names follow the game's own naming exactly.
Render: Preview and render options.
The Material Inputs panel contains these sections:
Material Inputs: The pattern and supporting textures for the finish.
Colours: The colour slots used by the selected finish style.
Wear: How the finish degrades across wear values.
Pattern Transform: Scale, rotation and offset of the pattern on the weapon.
Surface Finish: Surface material properties of the finish.
Lighting: Lighting controls for the preview.
Workflow
Pick your weapon and finish style first; these determine which inputs and colour slots apply.
Load your pattern artwork in Material Inputs.
Adjust Pattern Transform until the artwork sits correctly on the weapon.
Tune Colours, Surface Finish and Wear, checking the result at different wear levels.
Use Lighting and the Render menu to inspect the finish under different conditions.
Export your finish from the File menu when you are happy with it.
Exiting
Click the exit action to return to the dashboard. You will be asked to confirm, and reminded to export your finish first, as anything not exported is lost when you leave.
